Bench Music is the musical moniker of my near, dear friend Elijah Newman. Only formally-trained and officially-licensed musicians are permitted to perform the sonic stylings of Bench Music, so it was an honor for Elijah to make a plea to the Bench overlords to even allow me to conjure a visual translation of their heavenly sound.
We stepped foot onto the snow-blanketed basketball court where the hoops had been confiscated. No hoops, no ball. Just two friends and a camera.
To create the morphing universe that contains the undulating b-ball planet, I fed a few dozen images of Elijah hooping into an artificial intelligence model trained on images of celestial bodies.
Heavenly bodies.
