Hyde Park Art Center
videos

Hyde Park Art Center is an arts institution on Chicago's south side, providing artist residencies, development programs, classes, and exhibitions since 1939. I was asked to help showcase the 2023 resident artists through a series of video interviews, which I filmed, edited, and scored.

México-raised and currently Chicago-based artist Sofía Fernández Díaz details her process of adorning found objects and handmade textiles with beads, dyes, and melted wax to imbue them with new meaning, and to give them patitas.

Chicago artist Eric Perez breaks down how his practice in photography, video, and sculpture draws from his time spent as a U.S. Marine. He takes photos of his fellow veterans and corrupts the image data with other pieces of media he captured during his service, to inject the portraits with some simulated sense of the impact of time spent in war.

Kushala Vora, from Panchgani, India, now based in Chicago, IL, walks us through a practice devoted to letting go of power. Her work in ceramics, photography, performance, and plants brings me to a state of pensive calm.
